Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see a significant change to their gaming library, with 22 titles being removed on May 20, 2025. Among the games leaving are high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, as well as the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and exclusive member discounts. Subscribers to the Extra and Premium tiers also have access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.
As reported by Push Square, the upcoming removal of these 22 games from the PS Plus Premium library includes two notable PS3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. These games are significant because they are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the last resort for players without a working PS3 and the original discs. Both titles were added to the library towards the end of 2024 and will be removed less than a year later.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is a set of alternate history first-person shooters that followed the success of the Ratchet and Clank franchise. The series saw three releases on the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.
It's not common for Sony to remove first-party games from PS Plus, but it has happened before. A notable example is the unexpected removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. Unlike the Horizon titles, which remained purchasable after their removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles once they leave PS Plus.
Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Another first-party title, InFamous: Second Son, is also set to depart from PS Plus.
Insomniac's efforts to revive the Resistance series have been unsuccessful. In February, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price mentioned a strong push for Resistance 4, but the project did not move forward. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, the Resistance franchise has been dormant for some time.
