The boys are back in town, and we're not just talking about any boys, but the legendary quartet of Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman from South Park. The animated series has officially announced its return with Season 27, promising to tackle the current state of affairs in their unique, barely-coping style.
The excitement kicked off with a new trailer that initially tricked fans into thinking they were getting a sneak peek at a new dramatic series. The trailer was filled with intense editing and suspenseful music, creating an ominous atmosphere. However, the illusion was shattered when Randy and Shelley, Stan's dad and sister, appeared on-screen. In a hilariously awkward moment, Randy asks Shelley if she's been taking drugs, suggesting it might help her, all while sitting in front of a Wicked movie poster.
South Park Season 27 is set to premiere on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025. Following the humorous gag, the trailer shifts back to showcasing intense action, hinting at several significant and topical events. Expect to see major plane crashes, the Statue of Liberty being toppled, a cameo from P. Diddy, and, of course, another war with Canada. If you're a long-time fan or have seen the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, this last plot point won't come as a surprise.
The teaser also confirms that the new season will air on Comedy Central, marking over two years since the conclusion of Season 26. In the interim, fans have enjoyed three specials: 2023's South Park: Joining the Panderverse and South Park (Not Suitable For Children), followed by 2024's South Park: The End of Obesity.
South Park, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, has been a staple on Comedy Central since its debut in 1997, quickly gaining widespread acclaim for its sharp satire and humor.
