Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's ambitious entry into the Star Wars universe, is set to close its doors less than a year after its debut on iOS and Android. Launched in June 2024, the game quickly captured attention with its unique game show-style presentation and innovative reinterpretations of classic Star Wars characters.
The closure of Star Wars: Hunters is scheduled for October 1st of this year, with the final content update slated for release on April 15th. In response to the shutdown, Zynga has announced that players can now request refunds for any unused in-game currency. Additionally, to give fans more time with the game, certain seasonal events will be rerun, and Season 3 will be extended.
For those eagerly awaiting the arrival of the final hunter, Tuya, there's good news: Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to play for free in multiplayer from the start.
The End of the Journey
The announcement of Star Wars: Hunters' closure came as a surprise to many, given the absence of any clear signs that the game was struggling. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, the decision to shutter the game suggests there were deeper, perhaps strategic, reasons behind this move.
One possible explanation could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, which may have diluted the potential audience. Additionally, the typical Star Wars fanbase is skewing older, and this demographic might not be as interested in a fast-paced, mobile multiplayer experience.
