Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Imminent?
Reliable sources indicate the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 reveal strongly suggests a first-half 2025 market launch. The timing echoes the original Switch announcement, which also occurred on a Thursday in 2016.
The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for some time. Reports suggest mass production commenced around September/October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025, a deadline now seemingly met.
Prominent leaker NateTheHate, citing unnamed sources, confirmed the January 16th reveal date on his January 13th podcast. This aligns with Nintendo's historical preference for Thursday announcements. The Verge's Tom Warren independently corroborated this information.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement
Whether Nintendo will precede the main event with a social media teaser, mirroring their 2017 approach, remains to be seen. However, given the extensive leaks already circulating – including Nintendo's rare acknowledgment of a replica console – the reveal may hold few surprises for dedicated fans.
Speculation points to a slightly larger device than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm), featuring an 8-inch LCD screen and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con is rumored to include a new "C" button, the function of which is currently unknown, potentially linked to a speculated mouse-like pointer mode.
Launch Titles Remain Enigmatic
Unlike the hardware, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely undisclosed. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is expected as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage one or more major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
