How Much Will Switch 2 Cost? Nintendo Says It Needs to Consider ‘The Price Range That Consumers Expect for Nintendo Products’

Nintendo is carefully considering several factors to determine the price of the upcoming Switch 2. While analysts predict a $400 price point, Nintendo remains tight-lipped, acknowledging the impact of inflation, fluctuating exchange rates since the original Switch's 2017 launch, and consumer expectations for Nintendo products. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized the multifaceted nature of this pricing decision.

The original Switch's $299.99 launch price, maintained for years, provides a benchmark. However, Sony and Microsoft's recent price hikes for their consoles due to rising costs and economic factors influence the landscape. A $400 price tag for the Switch 2, a predicted increase from the original's $300, aligns with expectations for a more powerful console, considering the Switch OLED ($350) and Switch Lite ($200) models. Details regarding the Switch 2's specifications and features remain limited beyond the initial teaser video.

A dedicated "Switch 2 Direct" presentation is scheduled for April 2nd, promising a closer look at the console. This follows a previous reveal showcasing the console's design, a potential Mario Kart 9 glimpse, and a possible "mouse" mode for the new Joy-Cons. Key unanswered questions include the functionality of a new Joy-Con button, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports. Hands-on events are also planned in various locations globally.

Importantly, Furukawa confirmed that the original Switch's price will remain unchanged despite the Switch 2's launch.
