Surprise! Sybo Games has quietly released a new Subway Surfers title – Subway Surfers City – for iOS and Android devices in select regions. This soft launch offers a glimpse of what appears to be a sequel to the original, boasting improved graphics and many features introduced throughout the original's long lifespan.
The game features returning characters from the original Subway Surfers, alongside new additions such as hoverboards, all rendered with updated visuals. It seems Sybo aims to address the aging technology of the original game, which, despite its enduring popularity, is showing its age.
Currently, the soft launch is limited to specific regions: iOS users in the UK, Canada, Denmark, Indonesia, Netherlands, and the Philippines can download the game, while Android users in Denmark and the Philippines have access.
A Bold Move?
Releasing a sequel to their flagship title is a significant gamble for Sybo. However, the decision is understandable given the limitations of the original game's Unity engine. The stealth launch approach is intriguing, especially considering Subway Surfers' global popularity.
It will be interesting to see player reception and the game's eventual worldwide release. We eagerly await its full launch and hope it meets expectations.
