Sydney Sweeney Stars in Split Fiction Film Adaptation

Author : David May 05,2025

Exciting news for fans of both video games and cinema: Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in "Madame Web," is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of Hazelight's hit game, "Split Fiction." This project is quickly gaining momentum, with "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu at the helm and the script penned by the acclaimed duo behind "Deadpool & Wolverine," Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen, the powerhouse behind the successful Sonic films, is orchestrating this adaptation and is now presenting this impressive talent package to Hollywood studios, sparking an anticipated bidding war.

The big question on everyone's mind is which of the game's protagonists, Zoe or Mio, Sydney Sweeney will portray. Variety reports that the decision is yet to be made, adding an extra layer of anticipation to this already thrilling project.

It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised the game with a score of 9/10, describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that's very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight isn't stopping at "Split Fiction." Their other blockbuster game, "It Takes Two," which sold 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a film potentially starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While there's always a chance these projects might not come to fruition, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests Hollywood is eager to bring these stories to the big screen.

Story Kitchen's involvement in the gaming-to-film pipeline extends beyond Hazelight's projects. Last year, they announced a film adaptation of Square Enix's "Just Cause," directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of "Blue Beetle" fame. They are also working on adaptations of "Dredge: The Movie," "Kingmakers," "Sleeping Dogs," and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.

Meanwhile, Hazelight is not resting on its laurels and is already teasing its next game, keeping the excitement alive for fans and gamers alike.
