An exciting new tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has been unveiled, allowing players to experience a captivating walkthrough of a futuristic cyberpunk city. This project, crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, draws inspiration from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visually striking Blade Runner franchise, and the immersive world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was demonstrated on cutting-edge hardware, including an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz.
This technical showcase is a testament to the power of dynamic lighting, highlighting the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5's Nanite technology, which uses Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion in conjunction with Screen Space Reflections. Remarkably, the demo does not employ advanced features such as Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, demonstrating the impressive potential of UE5 even without its most advanced tools.
While the rain effect in the demo may come across as somewhat artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is exceptionally detailed, enhancing the realism of the urban environment. However, the experience is marred by frequent invisible walls, which can detract from the overall immersion. Despite the visually stunning nature of Unreal Engine 5 tech demos, it's worth noting that games developed using this engine often face performance challenges when brought into real-world gaming scenarios.
