Hot off the heels of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Koei Tecmo has released another exciting addition to the musou genre with Warriors: Abyss, a new roguelite featuring beloved characters from the Warriors series. Launched today, this game introduces a fresh twist to the familiar gameplay.
Unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play, Warriors: Abyss allows players to assemble a squad and battle through endless waves of enemies. The game adopts an isometric camera perspective, drawing inspiration from classics like Diablo and the acclaimed roguelite, Hades. Players will navigate through the depths of "hell," facing off against demonic foes.
The gameplay footage showcased today featured iconic characters such as Zhou Yu, Nobunaga Oda, and Sunshang Xiang from various Warriors titles. According to the PlayStation Blog, players can recruit and add characters to their team over time, enhancing their roster with additional summoning actions. At launch, players can deploy up to seven active heroes from a pool of 100 warriors.
Koei Tecmo has plans to expand the character lineup post-launch, starting with additions from the Jin kingdom in Dynasty Warriors. The developer hinted at further waves of characters and even teased the possibility of including figures from outside the Warriors universe in future updates.
Warriors: Abyss is available today on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It will also be released on Nintendo Switch on February 13, 2025. Players looking to snag the in-game Dynasty Warriors Costume Set should purchase the game before March 14, 2025.
