YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared in a video titled 'A Bad Month' that he had been working on an animated adaptation of the survival horror game Soma for a year, only for the project to fall apart, leaving him "quite upset." Soma, developed by Frictional Games and released in 2015, has been critically acclaimed and is one of Jacksepticeye's favorite games, which he streamed extensively upon its release.

In his video, Jacksepticeye expressed frustration over a difficult period creatively, with several projects either being canceled or not progressing as hoped. He revealed the Soma animated show, mentioning that he had been in talks with the developers for a year and was ready to move into full production. He had planned to play through the entire game in one video but held off in anticipation of announcing the animated show.

However, the project abruptly fell apart when an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction." Jacksepticeye was left so upset by the situation that he chose not to delve into specifics. The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted his plans for 2025, leaving him unsure of his priorities and next steps.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games released two more Amnesia games: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned that the company was looking to shift focus from horror games to explore other emotional qualities in their games, aiming to provide players with immersive experiences beyond just horror.
