Stellar Blade's 2025 PC Release Confirmed: Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Following its PlayStation exclusive launch in April, SHIFT UP has officially announced that the action RPG Stellar Blade will arrive on PC in 2025. This news, initially hinted at during an IPO press conference, confirms speculation surrounding a PC port. The developer cited the growing PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong as key drivers for this decision.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity until the PC launch. This strategy includes the upcoming November 20th release of collaborative DLC with NieR: Automata and the highly requested Photo Mode, along with ongoing marketing efforts.
The PC port joins a trend of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC, but this transition introduces a potential complication. As a Sony-published title with SHIFT UP acting as a second-party developer, Stellar Blade may require players to link their Steam accounts to their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions lacking PSN access.
Sony's stated rationale for this requirement, as expressed by CFO Hiroki Totoki, centers on ensuring the secure enjoyment of live-service games. However, this justification is questioned given its application to single-player titles.
The necessity of a PSN account for the PC version remains uncertain. Since SHIFT UP retains IP ownership, this requirement isn't guaranteed.
