Unveiling a Lost Iron Man Game
Edwards shared never-before-seen images and footage of the canceled title, tentatively called "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. The project followed Genepool Software's release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge. His Twitter posts included the game's title card, Genepool's logo, gameplay screenshots, and original Xbox footage showcasing the startup screen and a desert-set tutorial.
Activision's Cancellation Decision
Despite positive fan reaction, Activision shelved "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards speculated on several possibilities: delays in the film adaptation, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or perhaps another developer securing the rights.
A Unique Iron Man Design
The game's Iron Man design, noticeably different from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal, resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version of the early 2000s. Edwards stated the design was the artist's decision.
Edwards promised additional gameplay footage but, at the time of this writing, hasn't yet delivered. The revelation offers a fascinating glimpse into a lost piece of gaming history.
