Assassin's Creed Shadows' Release Date Shifted to March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th launch, this five-week postponement aims to further refine the game based on player feedback.
The game's journey to release has been marked by delays. The first, announced in September 2024, shifted the launch from November 15th to February 14th, 2025. While the initial delay cited the need to prioritize game quality, this latest adjustment specifically focuses on incorporating player feedback.
Marc-Alexis Coté, Vice President Executive Producer of the Assassin's Creed franchise, emphasized Ubisoft's commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience. He stated that the extra time will allow the development team to further "refine and polish" the game. This echoes the reasoning behind the previous delay, which, unlike this one, was also reportedly linked to challenges ensuring cultural and historical accuracy.
New Release Date:
- March 20, 2025
Following the September delay, Ubisoft offered pre-order refunds and free access to the game's first expansion to appease disappointed fans. Whether similar compensation will be offered this time remains unannounced. The shorter delay may mitigate potential player backlash compared to the previous three-month postponement.
This latest delay might also be connected to Ubisoft's internal investigation into its development practices, launched to improve player-centricity. The company faced record losses in its 2023 fiscal year, partly due to disappointing sales figures. Prioritizing player feedback through this delay could be a strategic move to align with the investigation's goals.
