The Quematrice, a large chicken-like monster, is inspired by the Cockatrice. While it breathes fire instead of petrifying its foes, it's still a formidable opponent. Most weapons are effective against its mid-sized frame, but its attacks often affect a wide area. Ranged weapons may be preferable for less experienced hunters.
Key Attacks to Avoid:
- Tail Slam: This powerful attack sees the Quematrice raise its tail high before slamming it down. Sidestepping or blocking is crucial.
- Fire Attacks: These attacks deal significant damage, inflict burning status (draining health), and can ignite the ground. These attacks have subtle cues. Watch for a slight head rear and roar before a forward fire blast or a full sweep after a head and tail raise. A charging fire attack involves a last-second turn to unleash fire. Maintain distance and retreat if necessary.
Capturing the Quematrice:
To capture the Quematrice, you'll need:
- Shock Trap
- Pitfall Trap
- At least two Tranquilizer Bombs
While one trap is technically sufficient, carrying a backup is highly recommended.
Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (limping, or the skull icon disappears from the minimap), lay a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping. Lure it into the trap, then deploy two Tranquilizer Bombs for a successful capture.
