A former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole, hinted at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5 in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post. This revelation followed Kole's discussion of another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," which sparked fan speculation. Kole clarified that "Project Dragon" was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs, but his comment, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," ignited a wave of disappointment among Crash fans.
The news comes amidst Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio following its separation from Activision Blizzard earlier this year. While the studio is now partnered with Microsoft Xbox for its upcoming projects, details remain scarce. The last major Crash Bandicoot installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, released in 2020 and achieved impressive sales figures exceeding five million copies. Subsequent releases included the mobile game Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! and the multiplayer title Crash Team Rumble, which concluded its live service in March 2023.
With Toys For Bob now operating independently, the possibility of a Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. However, the studio's newfound freedom could potentially pave the way for the game's eventual development, though fans may have to remain patient.
