Dead Rising: Remaster on the Horizon

Capcom resurrects the original Dead Rising with a deluxe remaster! Nearly a decade after the last Dead Rising game (2016's Dead Rising 4, which received mixed reviews), Capcom is dusting off the franchise. While Dead Rising 3 launched with the Xbox One, the series subsequently took a backseat, likely due to the lukewarm reception of its predecessor.

The original Dead Rising, initially an Xbox 360 exclusive (2006), saw an enhanced release across multiple platforms in 2016, preceding Dead Rising 4. Meanwhile, Capcom poured resources into its Resident Evil franchise, enjoying massive success with remakes (Resident Evil 2, 4) and new installments (Resident Evil Village). This disparity in attention likely explains Dead Rising's prolonged absence.

Now, eight years after the last entry, Capcom has announced "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster." A brief 40-second YouTube trailer showcases Frank West's iconic helicopter jump, hinting at the game's thrilling opening. While platforms and a release date are unconfirmed, a 2024 release is highly probable.

Capcom's Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: A New Look at a Classic

Despite the 2016 enhanced version for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises superior visuals and performance. This raises the question: will sequels follow suit? Several are over a decade old. However, Capcom's apparent preference for remasters, at least initially, suggests full-scale Resident Evil-style remakes are unlikely. Focusing on two zombie franchises simultaneously might be considered too ambitious. Nevertheless, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains very much on the table.

2024 has already seen a wave of successful remasters and remakes (Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, etc.). Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster arrive this year, it will join other resurrected Xbox 360 titles, such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP.
