Diablo 4 surpasses Diablo 3? Blizzard prioritizes player engagement across all titlesWith Diablo 4's inaugural expansion imminent, key developers offer insights into their vision for the franchise's latest installment and their broader strategy for the Diablo series.

Blizzard's Focus: Player Satisfaction

Diablo 4 surpasses Diablo 3? Blizzard prioritizes player engagement across all titlesBlizzard's commitment to Diablo 4's long-term success is evident, especially given its record-breaking sales as the company's fastest-selling game. In a recent VGC interview, Diablo series head Rod Fergusson and Diablo 4 executive producer Gavian Whishaw highlighted the mutual benefit of sustained player engagement across all Diablo titles – from Diablo 4 to the original game.

Fergusson emphasized Blizzard's policy of continued support for its games, stating, "One thing you'll notice about Blizzard is that we rarely discontinue support for our games. You can still play Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 2: Resurrected, and Diablo 3." He added, "Players enjoying Blizzard games is a huge win for us."

Diablo 4 surpasses Diablo 3? Blizzard prioritizes player engagement across all titlesAddressing the potential concern of Diablo 4's player count being comparable to previous installments, Fergusson clarified that player distribution across different titles isn't a problem. He cited the enduring popularity of Diablo 2: Resurrected, a remaster of a 21-year-old game, as evidence of the broader success of the franchise. The key, he stressed, is maintaining a thriving ecosystem where players enjoy and engage with Blizzard's games.

Fergusson reiterated Blizzard's desire to let players choose their preferred game. While increased player migration from Diablo 3 to Diablo 4 would be financially beneficial, the company's focus is on creating compelling content to attract players to Diablo 4 organically. Their strategy, he explained, is to develop content so appealing that players will choose to play Diablo 4. This commitment extends to their ongoing support for Diablo 3 and Diablo 2.
