In the expansive world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as a crucial herb, especially during the Miester's Ritual in the game's fourth act. Under the guidance of Miester Siva, players must craft a special Ritual Bowl using a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the essential Blackroot. This concoction grants access to the Hall of Echoes and bestows the valuable Night Vision skill.
During your initial ritual, all required ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals demand that you source these items yourself. While obtaining a ritual bowl and obsidian lancet is relatively straightforward—you might even already possess them—locating Blackroot can be a daunting task. If you've been struggling to find this elusive herb, this guide is here to assist.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
To find Blackroot, head to Cloisterwood, a dense forest in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, just a short journey north of Driftwood. Once immersed in the forest, press and hold the left ALT key to highlight all available pickups.
You'll soon notice various herbs scattered at the base of trees, including the prized Blackroots. Though you need only one for the ritual, it's wise to gather a few extras as a precaution. This guide refrains from revealing how many times you'll need to perform the ritual to avoid spoilers, but remember, you can undertake it each time you gain a Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is not just a source of Blackroot; it's a treasure trove of secrets and encounters. You'll meet two NPCs, Hannag and Jahan, who can each help you gain a Source point. Notably, Jahan is also key to advancing Lohse's storyline. Hidden among the ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader, who offers a side quest if you choose the "Divine Order" option during your interaction.
Further north, at the pier, the Dead Ferryman NPC awaits to transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the intriguing characters you'll encounter in Cloisterwood. The forest also harbors other secrets, such as the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to acquire a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with a ship captain's spirit. For first-time explorers, it's recommended to thoroughly investigate this region and steer clear of the formidable witch, Alice Alisceon, until you reach at least level 15.
