A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning for players. This deceptive app, masquerading as a legitimate mobile version, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3.
The fake app cleverly uses altered screenshots from the original game, overlaying a fabricated mobile HUD to enhance its deceptive appearance. However, discrepancies such as the omission of Larian Studios (the game's developer) and the Dungeons & Dragons reference, along with the unusual title "Baldurs Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk" and developer name "Dmytro Turuk," expose its fraudulent nature.
Data Theft Concerns:
While visually obvious to some, the app's free initial download might lure unsuspecting users. The subscription fee becomes apparent only after installation. More alarmingly, the app's terms of service reveal it may collect user IP addresses and potentially other sensitive data. This isn't the first instance of a Baldur's Gate 3 imitation appearing on app stores.
This fraudulent app doesn't currently seem to be on the Google Play Store (Android), but caution is advised for both iOS and Android users. Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is. Larian Studios has not announced any plans for a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3. However, previous Baldur's Gate titles (1 and 2) are available on mobile, and Baldur's Gate 3 is playable via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Anyone who downloaded the fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 app should immediately uninstall it. Always verify the developer information before installing any app, especially those claiming to be ports of popular games.
