Supercell has announced it is shutting down Squad Busters, its globally launched title from May 2024. This decision comes as a surprise from a studio responsible for enduring hits like Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. The game initially generated significant excitement and drew in millions of players upon release.
Unfortunately, that momentum proved difficult to sustain. Departing from its traditional strategy of extensive beta testing, Supercell opted for a faster, worldwide launch cycle for this project. By early 2025, however, the development team acknowledged the game had not achieved the long-term success they had hoped for.
In a bid to revitalize the experience, Supercell rolled out 'Heroes', one of its most ambitious live-service updates to date. Yet, even this substantial rework could not resolve the core challenges facing the game, leading directly to today's closure announcement.
What is the Squad Busters shutdown schedule?
The studio confirmed active development will formally conclude following a final update in December 2025. The game servers will stay online for a period after that, with a complete shutdown expected sometime in 2026, but not before the middle of the year.
All in-app purchases were disabled as of 11:00 AM UTC on October 30th. Players who made purchases during 2025 are eligible to transfer the monetary value to another Supercell game. Eligible titles include Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Hay Day, or Boom Beach.
This transfer process will open via Player Support on November 10th and remain available until the end of 2025. Additionally, a developer Q&A is scheduled for November 13th to address community questions regarding the decision and the game's development history.
Supercell is thanking the community with free bundles in its other games
These are being distributed through the Supercell Store, with rewards tiered according to total playtime in Squad Busters. Previously exclusive Squad-themed cosmetic items will also make a final return, allowing players to take a memento of the game into Supercell's other worlds. All rewards will be accessible from November 10th through the end of 2025.
