Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy - 6 Through the Ages Cards
View 7 Images
These cards are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included in the main set. They are reprints of existing Magic cards, reimagined with iconic artwork and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new mechanics or unique cards like those in the recently showcased main set or the Commander decks, they offer a nostalgic journey through the visual history of the Final Fantasy series.

$7.99 at TCGPlayerUnlike the main set cards, Through the Ages cards won't be legal in Magic's Standard format (although they retain their legality if the original card was already legal). These cards serve as alternate art versions and can be found in both Collector Boosters and one in every three Play Boosters, which are used for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.
If you're planning to dive into this set at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five out of the six cards are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige, an Uncommon card and a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, is expected to have a significant impact on the set's dynamics.
The reprint of Jodah, the Unifier, as the Warrior of Light, is poised to become a fan favorite. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the art here is drawn from Yoshitaka Amano's iconic Japanese boxart for the original Final Fantasy. Similarly, Amano's artwork for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been beautifully adapted for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, which has been reprinted only once prior to this. These cards will be available physically as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy fan new to Magic, there's plenty to get excited about. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, has hinted at a mysterious twist in the design of Sephiroth on one of the cards, adding an extra layer of intrigue to this already thrilling collaboration.
