Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed
A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's revamped gameplay and control systems, alongside significant enhancements. The title retains its core loop of battling mechanical creatures (Abductors), harvesting materials, upgrading gear, and completing missions within a dystopian world. However, the remaster boasts a range of improvements.
The action RPG features significantly enhanced visuals, improved game balance, a challenging new difficulty mode, and updated features across the board. Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
Originally a PlayStation Vita exclusive, Freedom Wars was developed in part as a response to Capcom's decision to bring the Monster Hunter series to Nintendo consoles. While differing in setting (a futuristic dystopia versus a fantasy world), the core gameplay loop mirrors Monster Hunter's: players fight massive Abductors, collect parts, and upgrade their equipment for increasingly powerful attacks.
The new trailer highlights these gameplay mechanics. It opens by introducing the protagonist, a "Sinner" condemned for the crime of being born, in a resource-depleted world. The Sinner's sentence involves completing missions for their Panopticon (city-state), ranging from rescue missions and Abductor extermination to capturing control systems. These missions can be tackled solo or cooperatively online.
Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay System Enhancements
The trailer details the key improvements in Freedom Wars Remastered:
-
Enhanced Graphics: PS5 and PC versions boast 4K (2160p) resolution at 60 FPS. PS4 reaches 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version runs at 1080p at 30 FPS.
-
Faster-Paced Gameplay: Improved design and new mechanics, including increased movement speed and attack cancellation, create a more dynamic experience.
-
Revamped Crafting and Upgrades: A more intuitive interface and the ability to attach/detach modules freely are introduced. Module synthesis, allowing players to enhance modules using rescued citizens, is a new addition.
-
Deadly Sinner Difficulty: A new, challenging difficulty mode caters to experienced players.
-
All Original DLC Included: All customization DLC from the original PS Vita release is available from launch.
The trailer effectively demonstrates the improvements and new features, making Freedom Wars Remastered a compelling prospect for both original fans and newcomers to the series.
