The hitbox in Marvel Rivals is controversial

A recent Reddit thread highlighted significant concerns about Marvel Rivals' hit detection system. Videos showcasing Spider-Man hitting Luna Snow from an improbable distance, along with other instances of seemingly impossible hits registering, have fueled player frustration. While lag compensation has been suggested as a cause, many believe the core issue lies within the game's flawed hitboxes. Professional players have even demonstrated consistent inconsistencies, with shots landing reliably when aimed slightly to the right of the crosshair, but failing when aimed to the left. This points to a broader problem impacting multiple characters' hitbox accuracy.

Despite this significant gameplay issue, Marvel Rivals, often dubbed the "Overwatch killer," enjoyed a hugely successful Steam launch. Over 444,000 concurrent players logged in on its first day—a number comparable to the population of Miami. However, optimization remains a major concern, with noticeable frame rate drops reported even on mid-range graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce 3050. Despite this, many players praise the game's fun factor and value proposition. A key factor contributing to positive player sentiment is Marvel Rivals' battle pass system; unlike many competitors, battle passes do not expire, eliminating the pressure to constantly grind. This feature alone could significantly impact player perception and retention.
