Author : Lucas May 17,2025

Nothing beats the thrill of parrying an enemy's attack in an action game, turning their force against them into a satisfying counterattack. If you're eager to master this technique in *Avowed*, here's your comprehensive guide on how to parry in the game.

How to Unlock Parry in Avowed

The Parry ability is located in the middle column at the top. To unlock it, you first need to invest an Ability point into any of the three core trees. Once that's done, you can then unlock Parry.

Parry comes in three ranks, each with different requirements and benefits, as detailed in the table below:

RankPlayer Level RequirementLevel Description
1N/A (1 Point Spent)Unlocks Parry.
2Player Level 5Increases Parry efficiency by 25%, dealing greater Stun when Parrying enemies.
3Player Level 8Increases Parry efficiency by 50%, dealing greater Stun when parrying enemies.

Additionally, at level 10, you can unlock “Arrow Deflection,” an ability that allows you to parry and block arrows and other projectiles.

How to Parry Attacks in Avowed

You'll hear a distinct metal clanking sound, and a visual cue will appear on your screen as the enemy staggers from your parry. The timing can be tricky and varies between different enemies, but with practice, it becomes manageable. It's less challenging to master than in games like *Dark Souls* or *Elden Ring*.

Parrying Isn’t Always an Option

Keep in mind that not all attacks in *Avowed* can be parried. Look out for attacks marked with a red circle; these require dodging instead of parrying. Furthermore, not every weapon can be used to parry. Single-handed and two-handed weapons can parry if they're not in your off-hand. Shields in your off-hand can also be used for parrying, but ranged weapons like guns, wands, bows, and grimoires cannot.

What Parrying Does (& Why You Might Want to Do It)

Parrying in *Avowed* is highly beneficial as it stuns your attacker, causing them to stagger, which gives you an opportunity to deal significant damage. This makes parrying an excellent defensive and offensive strategy, especially for melee-focused characters. However, if your character specializes in ranged combat, you might find less use for this ability. The good news is that respecing in *Avowed* is straightforward and cost-effective, allowing you to adjust your abilities if needed.

That's all you need to know about parrying in *Avowed*. Master this technique to enhance your combat prowess in the game.
