MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

Rumors are swirling that Season 5 of MultiVersus might be the game's last hurrah. According to AusilMV, an insider known for game leaks, a reliable source has indicated that the upcoming season is a make-or-break attempt to revive the game's fortunes. While this is still just a rumor, the situation is looking dire.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it enjoyed explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the online player base soon plummeted by 99%, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a return with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is slated to begin in early February, and it may represent the developers' final opportunity to reignite player interest. Essentially, this season marks a relaunch, although the developers have chosen to categorize the original 2022 release as a "beta." Despite the initial enthusiasm from players, the decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, announced in March of the same year, left many fans disappointed, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers.
