Death Stranding fans, get ready—because the next chapter is shaping up to be even more ambitious than the first. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is set to launch on June 26, 2025, and star Norman Reedus recently offered a glimpse into what players can expect, while also addressing the rumored film adaptation in a candid interview with IGN.
When asked if he’d be open to portraying himself in the upcoming movie—currently in early development under director Michael Sarnoski and A24—Reedus didn’t hesitate. “If it was an option, yeah, for sure,” he said. “I don’t know what’s happening with it. It’s so pre pre pre right now. But yeah, of course.”

Reedus also reflected on his journey with the franchise, particularly his initial confusion with the narrative of the first game. While the original title left many—including its cast—puzzled by its cryptic storytelling, Reedus noted that his understanding deepened ahead of the sequel. “As far as working with [Hideo Kojima] and understanding where his head’s at, I don’t think anybody can understand where his head’s at,” he admitted with a laugh. “He’s just that guy—he’s out there, and he’s got great ideas.”
That said, Reedus confirmed that Death Stranding 2 brings more clarity and intensity. “Story-wise, I did know what was happening more. There’s more action in it, there’s more of a definite goal to get to.” Fans can expect a bolder, more action-driven experience while still embracing the surreal, emotionally charged tone that defines Kojima’s vision.
Despite the complexity, Reedus remains fully committed. “It’s always a trip working on those things,” he shared. “It’s great, but it’s wild.”
Mark your calendars: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach arrives June 26, 2025.
