Palworld Dev Pocketpair Grants Day Off on Monster Hunter Wilds Launch After Staff's 'Mysterious' Health Notes

Author : Zachary Apr 23,2025

The developer of Palworld, Pocketpair, has generously given its staff a day off to enjoy the release of Monster Hunter Wilds. As reported by Automaton, the Japanese studio humorously announced on social media that a number of its employees had mysteriously claimed they would be "feeling unwell" on the game's launch day, February 28. This playful gesture by Pocketpair not only showcases their understanding of their team's gaming passions but also ensures that the development of their own games remains unaffected.

Monster Hunter Wilds has made a phenomenal debut, boasting 1 million concurrent players on Steam and securing a spot in the platform's top 10 most-played games of all time. This impressive feat places it ahead of popular titles like Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring. Despite this success, the game has received a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, prompting Capcom to release official guidance addressing PC performance issues. Additionally, Capcom has teased early details about Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1, which will introduce an endgame social hub for players.

The launch of Monster Hunter Wilds has had a significant impact worldwide, especially in its home market of Japan. One Japanese indie developer even humorously noted on social media that they hadn't sold a single game on Steam since Monster Hunter Wilds was released. This isn't the first time Pocketpair has shown such support for its team; they previously gave staff a day off to play FromSoftware’s Elden Ring in 2022.

We're also working on a detailed walkthrough, a multiplayer guide to help you play with friends, and instructions on transferring your character from the open beta. IGN’s review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, praising the game for refining the series' mechanics and delivering enjoyable combat, though noting a lack of real challenge.
