When you're near a potential painting subject, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these artworks, sneak up on your target while crouched and hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, locating the legendary Sumi-E is challenging as they do not appear on the map. Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime
To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during the summer daytime. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. Once there, you'll see Tanuki statues. Follow the path upward to a clearing where the legendary Tanuki awaits. Approach stealthily and complete the drawing.
Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime
The Grey Heron can be found in the Wakasa region, near the Lake Suigetsu area, during winter daytime. Approach the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu cautiously. Dismount at a distance, walk to the marked area, and locate the Sumi-E opportunity. Crouch and approach slowly to complete the painting.
Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime
Ride to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region at the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait for nighttime, then climb the stairs to the top, where you'll find the three wise monkeys ready to be drawn.
Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime
To find the legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E, travel to the Kii region and the Nakahechi Route sub-region during autumn nighttime. At the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, surrounded by fox statues, you'll find the fox at the cliff's edge. Approach and capture this moment in art.
Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime
Head to the Yamato region and the Yoshino sub-region during spring nighttime. Fast-travel to the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west, then follow the path east to reach the Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to a clearing where the legendary Deer awaits to be painted.
Keep in mind that even with correct timing and location, the animals might not always spawn. If this happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if the animal appears. With persistence, you'll be able to complete your collection of legendary Sumi-E.
