Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed interest in developing a Sengoku period-set game. He envisions this setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, according to Hashino. His focus remains on completing the current project. Interestingly, he revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become Atlus' flagship title.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next project. However, an anime adaptation is being considered. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved significant success for Atlus, boasting the highest concurrent player count of any of their platform launches to date.
The game's peak concurrent player count reached an impressive 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
