Exciting news for Star Wars fans: Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars film is still on track, and we have a fresh update from the film's writer, Jonathan Tropper. "I am [excited] too," Tropper shared with Screen Rant, adding, "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think." While details about the movie remain largely under wraps, we know it's set to take place after the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed this timeline in a February interview with Deadline, stating, "That's also in the future. It's all post-[the first] nine. Shawn's is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." This positions Levy's film as the first to explore the post-*Rise of Skywalker* era.
Kennedy also revealed that Levy's movie will hit theaters after 2026's *The Mandalorian and Grogu*. "I'm producing the Mandalorian movie right now, and I'm also producing Shawn Levy's movie, which is after that," she explained. Another intriguing detail is that Ryan Gosling is reportedly set to star in the film. With Tropper's optimistic words, it seems like things are moving forward for Levy's project, though fans will need to wait until at least the last quarter of 2026, if not 2027, to see it on the big screen.
It's been a while since Disney released a Star Wars film, with the last being the critically divisive *Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker* in 2019. In the interim, Disney has canceled several planned films, including one from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and a trilogy from *Game of Thrones* showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Additionally, a Star Wars movie slated for late 2026 was recently removed from Disney's release calendar.

At the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars feature films. The first, directed by Dave Filoni, will be set in the New Republic era within his Mando-verse. The second, *Dawn of the Jedi*, will be led by James Mangold. The third, a New Jedi Order film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will feature Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey post-*The Rise of Skywalker*. This project has seen several changes, with screenwriter Steven Knight recently departing after taking over from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Despite these shifts, Rey remains a key focus for Disney's future Star Wars projects, with reports indicating she will appear in multiple upcoming films.
Disney's Star Wars plans extend even further. Late last year, it was revealed that X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is set to write a new trilogy, which, contrary to initial reports, will not be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga.
The next Star Wars content to hit screens will be Season 2 of *Andor*, premiering on Disney+ on April 22 with a triple-episode premiere.
