Joseph Kosinski is reportedly in talks to direct a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Dan Gilroy, known for writing and directing Nightcrawler, is set to pen the screenplay. His work will build upon an initial draft by Eric Warren Singer, the screenwriter behind Top Gun: Maverick. Recently, Gilroy has also been involved in writing several episodes of the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, created by his brother, Tony Gilroy.
The original Miami Vice was a groundbreaking NBC crime drama created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann. Airing from 1984 to 1989, the show starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as stylish Miami detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Revered for redefining the visual and narrative style of television, the series remains a cultural touchstone.
In 2006, director Michael Mann brought the franchise to the big screen with a self-titled adaptation starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

More details about the upcoming film remain scarce. However, it’s clear that this Miami Vice reboot won’t be Kosinski’s immediate next project following the release of his Formula One movie, F1, slated for June.
Luckily, that gives Kosinski some time to focus—perhaps even tracking down the perfect Ferrari for his next cinematic chase scene.
