  • Watch out for wandering Barbarian tribes
  • Look for the elusive Whale in coastal waters
  • Uncover the mystery behind ancient Obelisks

Short Circuit Studio has rolled out a fresh update for TownsFolk, their recently launched settlement-building game. Titled "Shadows and Fortune," this content drop aligns with the game's charming pixel-art aesthetic while introducing darker themes and a host of new gameplay mechanics to explore.

Even though the game just launched last month, the developers are already enriching the experience with additional layers of strategy. The update introduces new buildings and in-game challenges, including hostile Barbarians that create dynamic tension during campaign missions and Skirmish mode. Players can now construct eight new structures: the Altar, Town Square, Blacksmith, Aqueduct, Bank, Granary, Factory, and Terraformer.

Aquatic environments are also receiving attention with the addition of the rare Whale, while new Special Locations like mysterious Obelisks and sunken Shipwrecks increase the element of surprise during exploration.

For players who need help keeping up with all the new additions, a detailed Compendium serves as an in-game encyclopedia. The Exploration System has been overhauled, and players can now toggle Campaign Difficulties between Frontier and Survival modes.
