New World of Warcraft Video Explains Feast of Winter Veil Lore

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Festive Lore Deep Dive

World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a beloved in-game celebration mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. Each year brings new collectibles, gold, and other festive goodies.

A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of Winter Veil. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter (a Titan-forged giant), the Tauren's traditions of reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother, and the modern-day commercialization by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.

Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures

No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of kidnappings – by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen's voice acting, as Metzen the Reindeer extends his thanks in Thrall's voice.

Blizzard's Content Creator Partnerships

This collaboration marks another successful partnership between Blizzard and PlatinumWoW, who has previously created lore videos covering various aspects of the Warcraft universe, including Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge. This trend of collaborating with content creators, also including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrates Blizzard's commitment to engaging community content.

Winter Veil 2023 Highlights

Players can still partake in the festivities until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, the Grunch pet, and a special gift awaiting under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind (similar to last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt).
