Why the Spider-Man Sony/Marvel Universe Was Doomed Before It Began

Author : Nathan Feb 19,2025

This review will discuss Venom: Lethal Protector #1 and Kraven the Hunter #1. Beware: Spoilers for Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter follow.

The first issue of Venom: Lethal Protector serves as a strong opening to the new Venom series. It successfully re-establishes Eddie Brock's character and his relationship with the symbiote, setting the stage for future conflicts. The creative team masterfully crafts a compelling narrative that balances action and character development, leaving the reader wanting more. The art style is dynamic, capturing the visceral nature of Venom's battles. The story's connection to the events of Venom: The Last Dance is smoothly integrated, providing context without overwhelming new readers.

In contrast, Kraven the Hunter #1 feels less impactful. While the artwork is visually stunning, the narrative is slower-paced and less immediately engaging. The issue focuses heavily on establishing Kraven's character and motivations, which, while important, leaves the action somewhat lacking compared to the Venom issue. The plot's connection to the recent Kraven the Hunter film is tenuous at best; it feels more like a standalone story than a direct continuation. While the potential for a compelling series is present, this first issue needs more to grab the reader's attention.

In summary, Venom: Lethal Protector #1 delivers a thrilling and well-executed start, while Kraven the Hunter #1, despite its artistic merits, feels less compelling and requires more to fully engage the reader.
