- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and other popular titles are transitioning to a new publisher
- ByteDance will no longer handle distribution for these games in the United States
- Skystone Games, a US-based publisher, is taking over with localized versions for American players
Earlier this year, the headlines were dominated by news of the TikTok ban (or rather, the company's voluntary suspension of the app). While most discussions focused on the political implications, we mobile gaming enthusiasts were more concerned about dozens of top-tier games suddenly becoming unavailable!
Major titles like Marvel Snap and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang vanished from app stores overnight - sometimes without warning to developers or players. This sweeping action resulted from political pressure forcing ByteDance to distance itself from its social media platform.
Though TikTok has since returned, many affected games weren't so fortunate. Marvel Snap's team reacted swiftly, securing Skystone Games as their new publisher. Interestingly, Skystone now manages nearly all of ByteDance's previously US-published titles.

Who would've predicted mobile games getting caught in international political crossfire? For players, this transition at least means they'll either maintain access to their favorite games or receive US-specific versions.
Still, this resolution leaves much to be desired. Watching our beloved games become political bargaining chips certainly isn't what any gamer wanted. As the TikTok sale deadline approaches, we're all wondering if this situation might set a worrying precedent for how politics can unexpectedly impact gaming ecosystems.
