Disney has revealed plans for its seventh global theme park destination, partnering with Abu Dhabi's Miral to create an immersive waterfront resort on Yas Island. While Disney won't directly own the property, its Imagineers will lead creative development to blend classic Disney magic with authentic Emirati influences.
Middle East Welcomes the Disney Magic
After eight years of planning, this ambitious project marks Disney's first major expansion into the Middle Eastern market. During Disney's recent earnings call, CEO Bob Iger emphasized their unique licensing approach, stating: "We own the IP, but Miral owns the park - it's a true creative partnership."

The concept art reveals what appears to be a stunning glass-like central castle structure, hinting at Aladdin-inspired aesthetics. Iger described the design philosophy as "where contemporary architecture meets cutting-edge technology," promising unprecedented immersive experiences that honor both Disney heritage and local culture.
A Strategic Geographic Expansion
The Abu Dhabi location bridges an important gap in Disney's global footprint. Iger explained the strategic thinking behind the choice: "With one-third of the world's population within four hours' flight and the UAE's status as a major aviation hub, this creates incredible accessibility for international visitors."
While specific timelines remain flexible, Disney executives suggest a typical 5-7 year development period for projects of this scale. Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D'Amaro teased groundbreaking innovations, calling it "the most technologically advanced destination in our portfolio," with special emphasis on waterfront storytelling possibilities.
Miral Chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak highlighted the cultural significance: "This collaboration represents the perfect fusion of Emirati vision and Disney storytelling - we're creating generational memories where heritage meets imagination." The park will join Disney's existing global resorts across the U.S., Asia, and Europe once completed.
