FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author : Sophia Apr 15,2025

With less than 24 hours until the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its popular console. A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing, discovered on March 31 and shared across platforms like Famiboards and GoNintendo, hints at what might be in store for the Switch 2's controller lineup.

The filing, under the product code "BEE-008," suggests the registration of a new game controller. Speculation among fans points towards this being the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, although Nintendo has yet to confirm these plans. The document mentions features such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, which align with what one might expect from a Pro Controller.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this potential Switch 2 Pro Controller is the inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike its predecessor, the original Switch Pro Controller, this new model could offer a significant quality-of-life improvement, similar to what's available on competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers.

While this is all speculative, past FCC filings have occasionally provided early glimpses into Nintendo's strategies. We won't have to wait long to find out more, as the Switch 2 Direct is set to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2, following its initial reveal earlier this year, and may include details on a potential release date.

Nintendo has scheduled the Switch 2 Direct to last for an hour. Additionally, two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay are planned for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day. These sessions will offer fans an in-depth look at what the new console can do.
