Opting for the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World saves you $30 compared to buying the console and game separately. Please note that this bundle includes a digital copy of the game, so you won't receive a physical cartridge or game case. If having a physical copy is worth the extra $30 to you, feel free to proceed with a standalone preorder.
Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99
When purchased separately, the game carries a $79.99 price tag, which is $10 higher than the standard cost for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While it's never pleasant to see game prices increase between console cycles, I acknowledge that development costs are higher than ever. Hopefully, this price reflects the ambitious scale and content of Mario Kart World, making it worth the additional investment.
What Is Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World is poised to be the most expansive entry in the series. Designed as a fully integrated open world, similar to the Forza Horizon games, it even allows you in Grand Prix mode to drive directly from the finish line of one race to the starting grid of the next.
Race tracks in Mario Kart World are dynamic, with changing weather and time-of-day conditions that impact visibility and track grip. Nintendo states you can leave the designated track at almost any point and drive "virtually anywhere" across the map. Races now feature 24 drivers, the largest count in the franchise's history.
A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges you to race across the open world. You must meet specific placement requirements at various checkpoints; failing to do so results in elimination.
If competitive racing isn't your focus, Free Roam mode lets you and your friends explore the entire game world at your own pace, with opportunities to take photos during your journey.
More information about Mario Kart World will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct on April 17. For now, you can read our hands-on preview of Mario Kart World for additional insights.
