Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon recently shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will handle the characters Omni-Man and Homelander, ensuring they feel distinct from one another. During an interview at Gamescom, Boon emphasized the creative approach NetherRealm Studios is taking to differentiate these two powerful characters, addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in their combat styles.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
In a detailed discussion with IGN at Gamescom, Boon assured that the development team is committed to crafting unique experiences for both Homelander and Omni-Man. He explained that the studio has the creative freedom to explore a wide range of ideas for these characters but is keen on avoiding overlap in their abilities, particularly those reminiscent of Superman. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon also highlighted how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to design their Fatalities. He stressed the intention to make their primary attacks and overall gameplay feel significantly different, countering any assumptions that the characters might be too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon added.
