Warner Bros. Games has confirmed MultiVersus will be permanently discontinued following its upcoming fifth season. Here's everything players need to know about Season 5 and the game's offline future.
Warner Bros. Games Announces MultiVersus Shutdown
Season 5 Marks the End for MultiVersus
The official MultiVersus Twitter account shared the unexpected announcement on January 31, 2025, revealing the game will sunset on May 30, 2025 following its fifth season. Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated in an official blog post that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."
Running from February 4 to May 30, 2025, Season 5 will introduce DC's Aquaman and Looney Tunes' Lola Bunny as its final playable characters. Importantly, all Season 5 content will be earnable through gameplay without additional purchases.
The developers haven't disclosed specific reasons for the shutdown decision.
MultiVersus Offline Mode Details

After Season 5 concludes, players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline through local play against AI or with up to three friends. To preserve access, players must download the latest version between February 4 (9 AM PST) and May 30 (9 AM PDT).
The game will automatically create local save files tied to players' platform accounts, maintaining all unlocked and purchased content. Warner Bros. discontinued real-money transactions on January 31, 2025, though existing Gleamium balances remain usable through Season 5.
A Look Back at MultiVersus' Journey

First launching in public beta during July 2022, MultiVersus distinguished itself as a free-to-play platform fighter featuring Warner Bros.' iconic characters. The game received regular updates through June 2023 before undergoing a major relaunch in May 2024 with new features including rollback netcode and PvE modes.
Despite these improvements, technical issues and monetization concerns reportedly contributed to a 70% player decline on PlayStation platforms by July 2024. When servers close on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, MultiVersus will leave behind a roster of 35 crossover characters.
The development team expressed gratitude to the community, stating "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey." The game remains available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms through its final day.
