Ahead of the Switch 2’s launch this week, Nintendo has issued an important reminder: owners of the new console should avoid peeling off the protective film covering the screen.
In a downloadable health and safety PDF for the Switch 2, Nintendo shared essential “Careful Usage” guidelines (via NintendoSoup).
Part of those instructions reads: "The screen includes a protective film to prevent glass fragments from scattering if it gets damaged. Do not remove it."
Essentially, the adhesive layer is designed to keep the Switch 2’s screen shatter-resistant. Removing it increases the risk of glass shards spreading should the screen break.
So, when you unbox your Switch 2 later this week, take care not to remove more than just the packaging.
Nintendo also advises against using the Switch 2 in "dusty or smoky environments"—which means leaving it at home when heading to clubs or dusty old bookstores.
The company also advises: "Be sure to charge the internal batteries at least once every six months. Extended periods without use may prevent the batteries from recharging." Hopefully, you’ll be too busy playing Mario Kart World for that to be an issue.

Some warnings may seem more obvious. As Nintendo states: "Do not expose the system to fire, microwaves, direct sunlight, extreme heat, or very cold temperatures." Makes perfect sense!
After years of rumors, teasers, and official announcements, the Nintendo Switch 2 will finally hit shelves this Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Last month, some fans received early Switch 2 shipments ahead of the official launch. Unboxing videos and the startup sequence appeared online, but were quickly taken down by Nintendo.
