Overwatch 2 is making a grand return to China, bringing with it a wealth of content that includes rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, and exciting new skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. The Chinese Overwatch 2 community will be able to dive back into the action on Future Earth starting February 19, coinciding with the launch of Season 15.
The game's return was recently announced, with a technical test from January 8 to 15 allowing players to experience most of the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes introduced since the servers shut down in China at the end of Season 2. Following the successful test, Overwatch 2 has outlined a host of exciting features for Chinese players.
In a message on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote), Overwatch 2's game director, Aaron Keller, shared plans for a multi-week Return to China celebration. This event will feature many of the popular in-game events and rewards that Chinese players missed over the past two years. Additionally, all Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the game's relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through in-game events once the game is live again.
Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?
Keller also teased that Overwatch 2 Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. Details remain scarce regarding whether these will be new skins, existing ones, or exclusive to China. There's also speculation about whether these skins could be part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to how Season 14 drew inspiration from Norse mythology.
Global fans won't have to wait long to learn more, as Overwatch 2 Season 15 kicks off on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. With a little over a month until the new season, more information is expected to be revealed in early February.
In the meantime, players worldwide can participate in the Min 1, Max 3 – the second 6v6 test in Overwatch 2 – from January 21 through February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Other events such as the Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic are also scheduled before Season 15, providing plenty of excitement for players globally. While Chinese players may miss out on these events, they have their own special celebrations to look forward to soon.
