Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This follows the release of a "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month. The game, developed by Gallium Studio, is shaping up to be a unique experience centered around personal memories.
A Personalized AI Life Sim
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's development and Wright's personal connection to the project. BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization in Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising and awareness.
Wright explained that Proxi is an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input real-life memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each added memory ("mem") trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a 3D environment players can explore.
This mind world expands as more mems are added, becoming populated with Proxies representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, reflecting the context of each recollection. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.
The core goal of Proxi is to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." Wright emphasized the game's intensely personal nature, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player...the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
