Ryan Reynolds has cast doubt on Deadpool ever officially joining the Avengers or the X-Men, suggesting that if the character were to become a full-fledged member of either team, it would signal he was "at the end."
Despite the massive success of *Deadpool & Wolverine* and Deadpool's clear desire to become an Avenger within the film, some fans speculated Marvel Studios might be eager to integrate the 'Merc with a Mouth' with icons like Captain America and Professor X in next year's *Avengers: Doomsday*.
Last month's *Avengers: Doomsday* cast announcement was packed with veteran X-Men actors. Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden are all now confirmed for *Avengers: Doomsday*, solidifying a major X-Men presence. Grammer, famous for playing Beast in the Fox franchise, made his MCU debut in *The Marvels* post-credits scene. Stewart previously portrayed Charles Xavier/Professor X before a brief MCU appearance as part of the Illuminati in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. McKellen (Magneto), Cumming (Nightcrawler), Romijn (Mystique), and Marsden (Cyclops) have not yet appeared in the MCU. This all leads to the question: could *Avengers: Doomsday* secretly be an *Avengers vs. X-Men* film?
However, Reynolds' name was notably absent from the extensive star list confirmed for the superhero epic (though Channing Tatum, who played Gambit in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, did make the cut). New comments from Reynolds himself now suggest a formal promotion for Deadpool to either team is unlikely.
"If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end," Reynolds told *Time*. "That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that."
Reynolds did hint that a surprise cameo appearance in a supporting role might be more fitting, pointing to the positive fan reception of Wesley Snipes' unexpected return as Blade in *Deadpool & Wolverine*.
So, if full team membership is off the table, what's next for Deadpool? Reynolds revealed he is actively writing a new project involving an "ensemble" cast, though he remained tight-lipped on specifics.
"I'm writing a little something right now, that's, I don't know, it's an ensemble," Reynolds added. "But, I like that [Deadpool] is isolated."
This could indicate another *Deadpool* film packed with cameos, similar to *Deadpool & Wolverine*. Snipes' Blade could potentially return, and Channing Tatum seems eager to reprise his role as Gambit. The previous film also featured Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney/X-23.

So, what is known about *Avengers: Doomsday*? Beyond the confirmed cast, details remain scarce. Earlier this month, Anthony Mackie—who will return as Sam Wilson/Captain America—stated he believes the film is "going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had."
Mackie is the latest *Doomsday* cast member to publicly discuss the upcoming Marvel epic, following comments from *Ant-Man* star Paul Rudd and new *Human Torch* actor Joseph Quinn. Also this month, an apparent *Avengers: Doomsday* set photo leak sparked intense fan speculation, with some interpreting it as potential bad news for the X-Men.
Fans have also begun speculating that Oscar Isaac might appear as Moon Knight in *Avengers: Doomsday* after he withdrew from this month's Star Wars Celebration "due to changes in his production schedule."
Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige has confirmed that the initial Avengers livestream did not reveal the film's complete cast, stating, "We revealed many, not all," during a video call at CinemaCon.
