Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, this location remained inaccessible until the game's exciting March 2025 update. Below, you'll find detailed instructions on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods area, you must break the Fire Seal and employ the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines hiding the entrance. To initiate this, you'll need to place four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can find the first three items scattered between floors 50 and 59. Obtaining the Sealing Scroll, however, requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To assist Balor in procuring the Sealing Scroll, you must leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor once more, and he’ll inform you that the scroll will be ready the following day. Once you have the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.
Typically, breaking magic seals leads to a few closing words from the enigmatic mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the plan goes awry, and the Priestess urges you to flee before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health dwindles, Caldarus appears in his human form, coming to your rescue and then retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus leaves you with a new spell, Dragon’s Breath, an offensive ability that can burn through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. This spell can also reveal other previously inaccessible areas on the map. To use it, simply equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu, stand in front of the entrance, and activate the spell to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How to Find Caldarus
Once you've broken the Fire Seal, locate Caldarus inside his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is situated to the north of the Eastern Road on your map, and accessing it requires the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' precise location is marked on your map, just like other NPCs. You'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to remove the stump obstructing your path. Continue north until you arrive at the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.
After unlocking the Deep Woods, you can utilize the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area and visit Caldarus at any time. Teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient way to save time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.
You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, maintaining your connection with him even when you're not physically present.
