Activision has revealed that the Directed mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has nearly doubled the number of players engaging with the main quest. While many players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies are primarily focused on survival, the introduction of Directed mode has shifted the focus for some towards the story.
Since its inception in World at War, the Zombies mode in Call of Duty has always included a narrative, which has grown significantly over time. This trend continues with Black Ops 6. Despite a decline in the overall player base since its launch, the Zombies mode retains a dedicated community. The mode features a wave-based system where up to four players face increasingly challenging enemies, often prioritizing weapon and defense upgrades over story progression. The introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update has been well-received by the community.
A recent blog post from Call of Duty confirmed that Directed mode has boosted the main quest completion rate in Black Ops 6 Zombies from 4% to 8.23%. This statistic is derived from 480 million hours of gameplay, with a small portion logged since the Directed mode's release on November 14. Treyarch's goal with Directed mode was to increase main quest participation, and the doubling of completion rates is considered a success. However, with over 90% of players still not completing the main quest, Treyarch is actively exploring further ways to boost this number.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Made Major Improvements in One Key Area
Zombies' Directed mode was introduced as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Season 1 update, which also brought three new maps, two new game modes, and other enhancements. Directed mode offers structured guidance to help players navigate the story, which has historically included complex elements like interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation. These elements can be challenging for new players to understand, but Directed mode assists in making the storyline more accessible.
With the implementation of Directed mode, more Zombies enthusiasts may now complete the main quest than ever before. As Treyarch continues to refine Black Ops 6, future updates to Zombies and Directed mode could further enhance the main quest completion statistics.
