Exciting news for fans of tactical RPGs and stealth action games: Guns Undarkness is set to unveil a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This project is spearheaded by the renowned Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio composer, Shoji Meguro, who brings his extensive experience from Atlus, where he has been composing since 1995 for iconic titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. Since becoming an indie developer in 2021, Meguro has continued to collaborate with Atlus while also venturing into new territories.

Joining Meguro in this endeavor are the talented Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and the rapper Lotus Juice, well-known for his contributions to Persona 3. Guns Undarkness was first showcased at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. Gamers can look forward to the demo on February 24, 2025, with the game slated for early access release later this year.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

Guns Undarkness is described on its Steam page as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game unfolds in a world teetering on the edge of collapse. Players assume the role of a member of a private military company, tasked with undertaking missions alongside allies to unravel the mysteries threatening humanity's survival.

The gameplay of Guns Undarkness revolves around two core elements: stealth and combat. In stealth mode, players navigate through environments, aiming to stay undetected. Successfully engaging enemies without being spotted grants significant advantages in the ensuing turn-based battles, where strategic command of characters and effective use of various firearms are key to victory.

The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial covering basic controls, the battle system, weapon usage, and early-stage strategies. The game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, offering about 10 hours of playtime on PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build for this promising title.
