Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will receive two paid expansions this year, one of which features a Star Wars theme. This announcement is part of a broader update outlining the game's future, introducing a new multi-year narrative arc beginning in July. This represents a shift from the traditional annual expansion model, moving towards two medium-sized releases per year, a strategy first hinted at last September.

Bungie's motion to dismiss a copyright lawsuit was denied after the studio could not produce key in-game content that had been removed and placed into the Destiny Content Vault. The lawsuit, filed by writer Matthew Kelsey Martineau, claims that Destiny 2's Red Legion faction bears substantial resemblance to a faction depicted in his writings, which were published online prior to the game's release.

Bungie contended that the elements in the lawsuit differ significantly from those in the game, but the court determined the company failed to adequately demonstrate this without access to the vaulted content. This case underscores the legal complexities inherent to live-service games where story content can become inaccessible after updates.

A judge has denied Bungie's motion to dismiss a copyright lawsuit, rejecting the studio's proposal to use lengthy YouTube lore explanations as evidence for content no longer available in Destiny 2. The case originates from a claim filed in October 2024 by sci-fi author Matthew Kelsey Martineau (pen name Caspar Cole), who alleges Bungie borrowed core ideas from his published story. Both works share similar elements, including a "Red Legion" faction, flamethrowers, and war hounds.

Bungie's defense is hampered because the relevant campaign was removed from the game and vaulted. The judge declined to consider the proposed 10-hour lore videos, highlighting the evidentiary challenges posed by live-service games where significant content can be made permanently unavailable.

In an unexpected development, Destiny 2 players found that the Rite of the Nine dungeon mode, originally slated for Act 3, was accidentally released early following the launch of Act 2. The mode, designed to reintroduce weapons and provide a teaching-focused experience, went live in an incomplete state.

Players immediately noted missing features, such as the absence of a launch notification, duplicated and non-functional Xur Treasure Horde icons, and the appearance of untextured, unfinished weapons. Bungie has not yet commented on the unintended early release.

Shortly after the Heresy update launched this month, Destiny 2 players encountered a bug allowing all three class-exclusive Exotic Glaives—Edge of Intent, Edge of Concurrence, and Edge of Action—to be used by any class, bypassing their original Warlock, Hunter, and Titan restrictions. The bug also affected some older class-specific swords. After assessment, Bungie has stated it will not fix this issue. Although unintended, the developer has decided to keep the change, effectively making the broader weapon accessibility a permanent feature.
