MachineGames, the developers behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, have confirmed a heartwarming detail: players won't be able to harm any dogs in the upcoming game. This decision marks a significant departure from the studio's previous work, such as the Wolfenstein series, known for its intense and often violent gameplay.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," explained MachineGames Creative Director Jens Andersson in an interview with IGN. While the game retains the series' signature action and adventure, the developers have prioritized a family-friendly approach. This means encounters with canine companions will involve scaring them off rather than harming them.
Andersson further elaborated, stating, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways...We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away." This commitment to avoiding animal cruelty is a refreshing change in a genre often characterized by graphic violence.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is slated for release on December 9th for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 release tentatively scheduled for Spring 2025. Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the game follows Indy as he chases stolen artifacts, leading him on a globe-trotting adventure from the Vatican to the Egyptian pyramids and beyond. His trusty whip will be used for both traversal and combat, but thankfully, not against our four-legged friends. Rest assured, dog lovers, Indy's whip will remain dog-free in this exciting new adventure.
