Few Finish Oblivion Remastered Main Quest

Author : Gabriella Dec 11,2025

A month after release, only a small fraction of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered players have finished the main storyline. But this comes as no surprise to longtime fans - most are happily occupied with other activities instead.

I'm among those players! Since the game's surprise launch on April 22, I've been thoroughly enjoying Oblivion Remastered while avoiding the main quest. After escaping the sewers and delivering the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory, I've focused entirely on side content. I've joined the Fighters Guild, explored every corner of Cyrodiil, and completed numerous side quests. I've even attempted to break through the game's boundaries, following reports from other adventurous players.

My reasoning? Oblivion's side quests are incredibly entertaining (no spoilers here), but I'm also deliberately postponing the main story - including challenging segments like the Kvatch siege - while keeping my character's level relatively low.

Play

My plan is simple: enjoy the game at my own pace until I'm ready to tackle the main story. Though let's be honest - there's no "correct" way to play a Bethesda game. That's their magic - you create your own adventure, and the world accommodates your choices.

This approach seems widespread among players. "Too busy with OTHER ACTIVITIES like hunting SLAUGHTERFISH in Lake Rumare," joked Reddit user MrCrispyFriedChicken regarding the low completion rates.

"160 hours played and Kvatch still awaits," added Roffear. Another player, Ellert0, admitted: "I'm one of those oddballs who enjoys Oblivion gates, so I deliberately postpone the main quest until I've found and closed all 60 gates." Meanwhile, PlayaHatinIG-88 shared: "44 hours (and an entire in-game year) later, I haven't even visited Weynon Priory."

Current statistics show only 2.97% completion on Xbox and 4.4% on Steam. The discrepancy likely stems from Game Pass inclusion on Xbox, where many players may have simply sampled the game. Steam players, having purchased the title outright, demonstrate slightly higher engagement.

Ranking the Best Races in Oblivion

These low percentages shouldn't concern Bethesda - even with over 4 million players, low campaign completion is common across all genres. Whether it's a sprawling 100-hour RPG like Oblivion or a brief 5-hour Call of Duty campaign, many players never see the credits roll.

For Oblivion Remastered specifically, veteran players who completed the original may feel less urgency to replay the main story. Some prefer admiring the visual upgrades, while others... well, one player spent seven hours meticulously arranging books for the perfect domino effect.

Redditor Thaddeus122 reported nearly 100 hours without completing three main quests, having focused on the Arena, Mages Guild, side content like the Nirnroot quest, and methodically closing every Oblivion gate without fast travel.
